The United Methodist Retirement Homes, Inc. (UMRH), is a nonprofit group that aims to provide affordable housing and quality care for North Carolina’s senior citizens. The faith-based group operates four living communities, including three locations in Greenville and Lumberton. The UMRH Croasdaile Village campus is located in Durham, just half an hour away from the city of Raleigh. Low-income seniors are able to cover the cost of care in one of these facilities through benevolent assistance provided by UMRH Foundation funding.
Many active seniors choose to move into independent living communities in order to be amongst individuals their own age. Croasdaile Village offers both cottage and apartment-style living for seniors who are able to live safely on their own. Cottages are homey, featuring a kitchen, a back yard and a garage, while over 20 different apartment floor plans offer a variety of handy features and amenities. Residents have the option to care for themselves, or they can take advantage of scheduled transportation, utility maintenance services, and on-site housekeeping. Seniors who live independently at home can also hire home health services through Croasdaile Village.
Assisted living facilities are designed to meet the needs of seniors who are unable to live independently, but do not require full-time skilled care. Assisted living staff support seniors whenever necessary throughout the day, helping with activities such as bathing and grooming. Croasdaile Village’s Heritage Hall offers an Independence Extra service for independent seniors who need limited assistance with physical tasks. Friendship Hall at Croasdaile is a licensed assisted living center that is able to provide more extensive help with daily living activities.
The Edenton Methodist Church operates the Ruth Sheets Adult Care Center, an adult day program that specializes in dementia care. Trained staff supervise memory impaired patients during business hours to ensure that they remain safe, well-fed and engaged. Skilled nursing staff at Croasdaile Village are able to provide round-the-clock care for dementia patients who do not have a home caregiver.
Croasdaile Village offers physical, occupational and speech therapy services for senior patients who need short-term rehabilitative care. Individualized recovery plans help patients to cope with the aftermath of an injury, illness or surgery. Croasdaile nursing staff work with patients to make sure that their recovery goes as smoothly as possible.
Long-term nursing care is often necessary to deal with the complications that arise from progressive or degenerative diseases. The Pavilion at Croasdaile Village provides skilled, full-time nursing care for up to 110 senior residents at a time, meeting each patient’s unique daily medical and nutritional needs. The Croasdaile nursing care unit also organizes social activities to keep seniors physically and mentally active as they age.
The Raleigh Hayes Barton United Methodist Church offers seniors the chance to sightsee and socialize each month through its Grand Age Club, which schedules weekly meetups and monthly trips to local hotspots for individuals over the age of 55. The Millbrook United Methodist Church also holds monthly social luncheons and biannual bus trips for its senior members.
