Raleigh is well known as an LGBT-friendly place. A number of programs, centers, groups, and businesses are available in the area for any gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender resident to explore. The LGBT Center of Raleigh offers a number of the programs and services for the area.

Raleigh Realty

Seniors looking to make Raleigh their home should look into the realty business. Realty agencies in the area are more than happy to help newcomers find their home. Boylan Heights is one of the most gay-friendly neighborhoods in the vicinity, and it is only a short distance from downtown. The historic Raleigh skyline can be viewed from the area.

West Raleigh is where the North Carolina Museum of Art resides. Those that choose to live nearby will get to explore the many artistic finds located within a short distance. North Raleigh is also an artsy area. Strip malls and shopping centers provide a shopping experience.

Every first Friday of the month, the LGBTQ Center of Durham holds a game night. It provides a drug and alcohol-free environment for people to get away from the hustle and bustle of their daily lives and enjoy a simple night with friends. Card games and board games are regularly offered.

Out! Raleigh is a family-friendly street festival. It celebrates LGBT members of the city along with their allies. It is typically held in the Fayetteville Street District. The one-day event is usually held in May, although dates are subject to change from year to year.

Reassurance in Raleigh

In order to receive some reassurance regarding certain life events or problems faced, or find some helpful support, residents can search for support groups and community centers that offer assistance. The Women’s Initiative is one option. It is a women’s only group that meets regularly in order to provide support to those who may be struggling in their lives. Lesbian, bisexual, and transgender women are all able to participate.

The Carolina Bear Lodge is also a type of support group that men can join. Those who consider themselves among the bear community can join. There are regular events held that members can participate in, as well as routine meetings that provide a safe space to talk.
