Phoenix Veterans Benefits

Are you having trouble navigating the VA claims process? If so, you’re not alone. Many Phoenix residents rely on local organizations for assistance when it comes to applying for state and federal veterans benefits.

The Phoenix VA Health Care System keeps local veterans in shape.

Phoenix veterans rely on the Phoenix VA Health Care System to provide them with the care that they need. Medical, dental, and mental health services are all available for qualifying veterans, along with specialized geriatric care for elderly patients. Caregiver support services such as day health programs and respite care options are available for family members who look after a veteran.

You may be eligible to receive care through the Phoenix VA medical system if you have served in the active military, naval or air forces and were separated under honorable conditions. Veterans who served in the National Guard or the Reserves may also be able to use VA health services. During the enrollment period, applications are processed and sorted into eight priority groups that determine which veterans will be eligible to receive comprehensive care.

State and federal programs help Phoenix area veterans to find housing.

Becoming a homeowner is now easier than ever for Phoenix veterans thanks to housing assistance programs offered by Maricopa County and its partners. The Housing Authority of Maricopa County gives preference to veterans when it comes to affordable public housing units, while the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) of Maricopa County offers 6% down payment assistance to qualified veterans looking to purchase a home through its Home in Five Program. The Maricopa County Human Services Department offers financial assistance for qualifying veterans looking to modify their home through the Housing Opportunity for Service Disabled Veterans Program.

Not all disabled veterans are able to live independently at home. If you require day-to-day assistance, you may be able to find the long-term nursing care services that you need at the Arizona State Veteran Home in Phoenix. The facility is conveniently nestled between the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Administration Medical Center and Steele Indian School Park. Treatment plans are customized to fit the needs of each individual patient, helping residents to preserve as much independence as possible. Staff are able to care for up to 200 patients at a time, including 25 dementia patients and 25 Medicare beneficiaries.

Additional benefits resources are available to Phoenix area veterans.

Applying for veterans benefits can be an overwhelming process. If you don’t know where to begin, contact you nearest Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services (ADVS) Office to speak with a Veteran Benefits Counsellor. Counsellors help thousands of Arizona veterans apply for aid, file claims and appeal VA decisions every year. Veterans can also find employment assistance, educational programs, and other useful resources through ADVS.

The Phoenix Regional Benefits Office is dedicated to helping local veterans claim educational, health, housing and employment benefits along with other financial compensation from the government. Visitors can speak with a representative to find out more about how to apply to various VA benefits programs, or to receive help with their application.
