Philadelphia Senior Services

Philadelphia is a big city with a small town feel. It’s the second-largest city on the east coast and the fifth-largest in the country. Philly has every possible offering of fabulous entertainment, fine restaurants, quality educational institutions, and a thriving economy. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in American history or grab a Philly cheesesteak from the nearest food truck. Philadelphia is filled with communities that offer a host of helpful services for seniors.

Philadelphia Corporation on Aging has one of the most extensive programs for senior services. Seniors can get access to in-home or community based care, employment, meals, healthcare and insurance benefits, legal assistance, mental health, behavioral health, housing, and transportation. Senior centers are visible in most communities. The Corporation also provides protection and advocacy for vulnerable and frail senior citizens.

City of Philadelphia: Mayor’s Commission on Aging was formed under the city of Philadelphia to offer free services for Philadelphia seniors. Seniors can get counseling regarding health insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, long-term care, managed care, and Medicare Supplement Insurance. The Commission offers help with food and meal services, and provides caregiver support. The Commission administers senior centers in many communities and recreational services through the parks and recreation departments.

New Courtland Senior Services meets the needs of seniors by providing home and community-based services, affordable housing, and skilled nursing care. New Courtland Senior Services offers an all-inclusive model of healthcare and senior centers for recreation, supervision, and social activities.

Catholic Health Care Services leads the city in providing senior living services for Philadelphia seniors. Catholic Health Care Services offers various senior housing options, senior centers, older adult care management, support, adult day care centers, and senior clubs. Family members and caregivers can call the elder care helpline for assistance and linkage to services.

Senior LAW Center is a nonprofit organization which improves the lives of older Pennsylvanians and protects their rights through legal representation, education and advocacy. The firm provides free legal representation for over 50,000 seniors regarding elder issues. Some of the issues they help address are housing, elder abuse, financial exploitation, consumer problems, grandparent custody, and personal needs.

Penn Asian Senior Services serves Asian American seniors and other adults who are challenged by language and cultural barriers. The organization delivers services in Cantonese, Khmer, English, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Tagalog, Hindi, and Gujarati. The program provides Asian meal preparation, feeding assistance, medication reminders, personal care, housekeeping, laundry services, companionship, shopping, respite, and hospice care. The program serves all seniors without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability. Low-income seniors can access services with no cost. Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia provides case management and counseling for all seniors in and around Philadelphia, with an emphasis on supporting the Jewish population. The centers help seniors and family members of all faiths with help for long-term care, senior programs, adult day care, therapy, employment, vocational services, housing, home health care, and in-home services.

In addition, the Jewish senior centers, other churches and faiths serve seniors with similar types of services.
