While Omaha is not a city you would think would rank high on the gay scale, it is actually home to a number of gay and lesbian citizens. The town has a population of more than 400,000 people, with plenty of opportunities for each of them to get out and enjoy something they like. Gay seniors can enjoy their time at the various gay clubs and social events in the area.

Omaha’s Friendliest Neighborhoods

Little Bohemia, also known as Bohemia Town, is one of the best gay-friendly neighborhoods in the city. Vintage stores, restaurants, and affordable housing fill the area. Very nearby to this area is Aksarben Village Senior Living Community. Those seniors that wish to live near the gay-friendly neighborhood should consider this option. A movie theater, workout room, and much more are offered here.

Roughly 15 minutes away to the west is Brighton Gardens of Omaha. This living option is beautifully designed, with a gorgeous landscape and even more appealing indoor decor set up for all residents to enjoy. There is a nice outdoor patio area to sit and enjoy nature and numerous amenities inside.

Mark your calendars for the many LGBT social activities in the area. Most nights, you can head to a gay club in Omaha and enjoy some entertainment. The Max is one of the most popular locations, offering dancing and a fun night out. There are also special theme nights and drag shows to watch. An outdoor deck allows you to experience the atmosphere from outdoors, which helps you get away from the crowd when you want to simply chat with a new friend you meet.

The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is a fabulous spot in Omaha. Numerous exhibits remain in place, while just as many others come and go to ensure a revolving repertoire of artwork that keeps viewers interested. There are also regular events held at the center that gays can attend.

Support From the Community

Multiple church options are available in the Omaha area to offer support and acceptance of LGBT members of the community. Those in need of support and assistance can head to either Second Unitarian Church or Metropolitan Community Church to obtain it. S.U.C. strives to bring people from all walks of life together to form one large community. The church stands for justice and love. There are also multiple opportunities to get involved in the community through this church, ensuring people are getting out and mingling with others they may have never had the chance to meet.

The Rainbow Outreach LGBT Center was established in 1997. The physical center shut down due to not enough use or funds, but the website is still open. The goal is to provide support and guidance to all LGBT members of the Omaha community. There may be events discussed for citizens to meet up.
