Eat Like a Local in Oakland

Oakland has an eclectic blend of flavors, so you’re sure to find something that tickles your fancy. If you’re in the mood for authentic Latin food, then go to Cholita Linda. Run by Vanessa Chavez, you can find a menu full of delicious food like tacos, sandwiches, and traditional plates like picadillo. If you can’t make it to the brick and mortar restaurant, you can find pop-ups in farmer’s markets throughout the city.

If you’re in Oakland, you’re going to have to try some of the fresh seafood. Scott’s has been around since 1976, and their primary goal is to serve the freshest fish in friendly surroundings. The Oakland location looks out at the Oakland Harbor at Jack London Waterfront and serves favorites like fish and chips, lobster and steak, lobster ravioli, and more. Each month from June through November they feature a seafood extravaganza that focuses on in-season fish.

Try something entirely new and head to Burma Superstar for fresh and authentic Burmese food. There are three locations in the Bay Area, and all serve a selection of traditional dishes like curries, Oh Noh Kauswer and Nan Pia Dok. They also have vegetarian and vegan choices so everyone can find something.

Jack London Square not only provides great shopping opportunities but you can find restaurants, live entertainment, and weekly events. You also get a stunning view of the water and beach.

The Ridge Oakland is an ongoing project that will feature an outdoor shopping venue with two stories of local and national retailers. The first phase is complete, and there are stores open for shopping already. Oakland has a bustling indie boutique scene, and one of the favorites is Pretty Penny. This shop not only features the work of local designers, artists, and jewelry makers but buys and sells vintage clothing, so the options are always changing.
