When it comes to long-term care, you want to make sure you or your senior family members get the best care possible. That’s why SeniorAdvisor.com gives top ratings to the best facilities across the country. You can read more about the awards criteria here and you can see the 2016 SeniorAdvisor.com Best of Senior Living in New York award winners below.

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities help with tasks like transportation, cooking, cleaning, and personal care so that seniors can enjoy their leisure time and focus on social activities and health.

The Landing of Brighton is located in Rochester, New York and offers a wide variety of services that not only include assisted living, but Alzheimer’s care and dementia care. They are located near shopping areas, medical facilities, restaurants, and more. They also have their own salon, barber shop, large shared living spaces, and a fitness center. The facility takes care of things like transportation, snow removal, and housekeeping. They also provide their residents with over 200 social and educational opportunities every month as well as 24-hour assistance with day-to-day needs.

Many reviewers talked about the friendly staff and how clean and orderly the facility is. One family member wrote that “The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming and they feel like family.”

Sunrise of Mill Basin is located in Brooklyn, New York and has semi-private, studio, and one-bedroom apartments to choose from. The residents here can personalize their daily assistance needs and can get help with daily grooming, dressing, eating, and medication monitoring. The staff makes sure that while they will help with any task, they also encourage the residents to assert a certain level of independence where they can.

Many residents and reviewers were impressed with the friendly staff, good food, and cleanliness of the facility. They also appreciate that they are close to top-rated medical facilities and one child said, “The associated medical care was instrumental in discovering a potentially fatal health problem. Attention to my mother’s condition allowed for immediate action to rectify her condition.” Another wrote, “I knew I didn’t need to look anywhere else because I was immediately impressed with Sunrise of Mill Basin. The staff are over the top. The value is fair. The food and service are excellent.”

Alzheimer’s Care

These communities specialize in Alzheimer’s care as well as other memory loss conditions. The staff is highly trained to deal with the issues that go along with this disease and provide the proper cognitive stimulation, security, and engagement these seniors need.

Peregrine’s Landing At Orchard Park has received the rating of best Alzheimer’s care for many different reasons. The main reason they believe their care is one of the best in the state is that they make sure they respect the seniors for their contribution to society and their families. Peregrines focuses on memory care and offers 24-hour assistance, emergency response systems, personalized care, careful medication monitoring, and secure outdoor areas. Their amenities also include home-cooked meals with special dietary restrictions, aroma and massage therapy, invigorating activities, laundry and housekeeping services, and wander controlled surroundings.

Members of the community and their family enjoyed the staff and facility saying that everything was clean and fresh and well maintained. Family members also appreciated the care that their loved ones received and one son wrote, “We had a rough go with my dad. The staff has been wonderful and I know my dad is in a safe and friendly environment. Love the pet therapy!”

Baywinde Senior Living offers a special neighborhood for early to mid-stage Alzheimer’s patients along with their other assisted living communities. Residents work with memory care specialists and engage in stimulating life enrichment programs. Amenities include 24-hour emergency call system, on-site beauty salon and barber shop, and fine dining with locally sourced ingredients prepared by a trained chef.

Reviewers described Baywinde as a warm and welcoming community and were impressed at not only the assisted living but the level of care for the memory care patients. One family member even went as far to say, “They should get a gold medal and a purple heart. The people here are wonderful. I would recommend them to anyone.”

The Landing Of Brighton (see Assisted Living above) also has a personalized memory care unit that provides the proper care and stimulation that Alzheimer’s and dementia patients need.

Independent Living

Many independent living communities resemble some of the best resorts across the country. Seniors can enjoy their retirement, interact with other community members, and focus on their favorite activities rather than worry about taking care of their home.

Fleming Point located in Rochester, New York has a month-to-month rent that covers amenities like three nutritious chef-prepared meals, housekeeping, laundry services, transportation, and most utilities. Residents also have access to a variety of enriching activities and Fleming Point also offers a one-of-a-kind travel program that allows residents to travel to any of the 300 independent living communities in the US or Canada for a seven-night stay. All the homes are designed for seniors and offer easy maneuverability and emergency pull cords.

Most people had nothing but the best to say about the managers and staff that work at Fleming Point. Many residents liked that the managers lived onsite and would take care of their needs no matter what time it was. One family member said, “I selected Fleming Point for a loved one because when I walked in I got a good warm feeling. It was clean and inviting compared to other places I toured.”

The Landing Of Brighton (see Assisted Living and Alzheimer’s Care above) once again made the list for independent living. Activities allow residents to see films at the classic Dryden Theater, tour local wineries and visit Buckland Park just across the way.
