Naples Volunteer Opportunities for Seniors

There’s no better time than retirement to pursue the things you’re passionate about. There are many ways to get involved in causes in the local community, and nonprofit organizations are always looking for people who want to donate their time, skills, and experience. In Naples, you’ll find ways to contribute to literacy and learning, as well as to pets and nature. Here are a few of our favorite opportunities in and around Naples.

Help others learn

The Collier County Public Library system has opportunities for volunteers of all ages to help out at a branch that is near to your home. Depending on your skill set, you may be asked to do things like help to shelve books, keep the library clean and orderly, repair books, or assist with genealogy reference. Volunteers may also help out with special events, including learning events at the library for youth and adults.

If hands-on teaching is something you’re interested in, consider volunteering for Grace Place for Children and Families. The organization is dedicated to helping children and adults find a pathway out of poverty by providing appropriate educational classes. Tutors are needed to help children who are ages kindergarten to highschool with subjects like math, science, and reading. Teachers are also needed for daytime and evening small-group classes for adults that focus on teaching the English language and mastering literacy.

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida is another organization with a focus on youth in the community. They are looking for volunteers who are willing to commit an hour weekly to teaching after-school programs for children to help prepare them for real-world success. Topics will help to build work readiness, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial skills in participants.

If you love furry friends

The Naples Humane Society is a local no-kill shelter that can always use a helping hand. Their mission is to find forever homes for the pets, and they do this by raising awareness and providing classes on responsible pet ownership. Volunteers can help in many ways, including helping with pet care at the shelter, providing temporary foster homes for pets, helping with housekeeping and giving tours at the shelter, and assisting with special events.

The Naples Zoo has a variety of roles for volunteers, and many of them include working with the animals. You can help out in many ways, whether you're assisting with tours and educating guests, working behind the scenes, or being an animal interpreter. Volunteers are required to work at least 4 hours per week, and seasonal positions are available.

Garden and grow

If you have a green thumb, the Naples Botanical Garden might be the perfect place to show off your skills. Volunteers can assist with cultivating the garden by doing things like trimming, weeding, and planting during the appropriate seasons. Nature-lovers can also give tours of the beautiful property, and lead after-school and summer programs for children to educate them on the gardens.

There are so many volunteer opportunities in Naples to choose from, these are just a select few. No matter what you’re passionate about, you’re sure to find a great fit in the local community that will help you spend time doing things you love every week.
