Veterans earn a variety of benefits in exchange for serving their country. Yet, it is not always simple to access these benefits. Fortunately, veterans in the Naples area have numerous local resources to help in navigating the process of finding housing programs, job search services, and healthcare benefits, like substance abuse and mental health programs.
You may not be aware that you qualify for healthcare benefits through the Veterans Administration. Through the VA, any veteran who performed active duty service and was not dishonorably discharged can be eligible for healthcare enrollment. This includes Reservist and National Guard veterans who completed their service period as ordered federally. Your priority group will determine your benefits.
Naples is served by the Bay Pines VA Healthcare System, which is based in Bay Pines, Florida, a two-and-a-half hour drive from Naples. Thankfully, the Naples Community Based Outpatient Clinic is right in town. They provide a wide variety of services and programs, including social work, pharmacist consultation, primary care, and referrals to specialty care at Lee County VA Healthcare Center or Bay Pines VA Medical Center.
Collier County Veteran Services supplies a long resource list for vets and their families with a wide selection of federal and state long-term care, home, and land programs. Here are a few of them:
The closest Florida state veterans’ home is the Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans’ Nursing Home in Port Charlotte.
VA home loan services are available to qualifying veterans. This includes guaranteed loans for purchasing certain types of condos, a home, a manufactured home and lot, or to improve, build, or repair homes.
Tax exemptions are available for veterans with specific service-connected disabilities.

The county can also find you emergency assistance when you or a veteran in your family is homeless or at serious risk of homelessness. Collier County can also assist military spouses and widows with getting help with benefits applications.
Another housing program for veterans with daily care needs is the VA’s Medical Foster Home program. Bay Pines VA Healthcare System administers this program for the region. Caregivers take in participants into their private, local home. The caregivers have been through extensive background checks and are willing to provide transportation, supply assistance with activities of daily living, prepare meals, and include the veteran in family life.
The Collier County Veterans Council cooperates with the VA and other private and public agencies devoted to the cause of advancing and improving the health, welfare, and conditions of veterans and their families. They offer a transportation system to take vets to VA clinics and hospitals and any other facilities.
Employ Florida Vets is a web portal that provides resource and information links that help veterans and their families accomplish their employment goals. This gives vets a leg up on the competition for the best jobs.
