Miami Volunteer Opportunities for Seniors

If you are retiring to lovely Miami, then why not spend some of your new found free time helping those around you? When it comes to finding the time to volunteer, it is important to realize that every little bit matters. No matter if you only have a few hours a week that you can commit to, or you want a part time volunteer position, there is something for you in Miami.

Finding volunteer positions is not as hard as it used to be. Via online searches you can often apply to be a volunteer with practically any major nonprofit or local charitable organization. For many volunteer opportunities, there are required training sessions, background checks, and possibly other requirements, if you are doing something special.

Be Real About What You Want

It is good to consider what you feel the most capable of doing. Of course, many groups are willing to work with people to make sure that they get a variety of projects, so they don't stop having fun as a volunteer. Miami is a big area, so make sure that the commute to your projects isn't going to be too much to handle at times.

Here are some of the resources and organizations that can help you get on the path to volunteering in Miami and making it a greater city than ever before.

Hands On Miami

Here you will find a large listing of different positions from gardening, feeding the homeless, to mentoring students and others. The site is also a great tool for nonprofits to use to enhance the ease of getting volunteers.

Zoo Miami

Volunteering at a zoo will give you the chance to interact with a lot of people and show others the wonders of the natural world around them. Volunteering at the zoo is open to all that can pass a background check, attend a training session, and commit to 60 hours per year. Most positions also require the purchase of a uniform as well.

It will be hard to choose what you love most when you volunteer at Zoo Miami. Educational tours and special events are often achieved through volunteer work.

City Of Miami Beach

If you live near this popular section of Miami, then the city can offer a lot of volunteer projects for you to consider. Their website allows you to see the opportunities within your range of interest so you can save time. Examples include the Miami Museum of Science, WLRN Public Radio and Television, and the Arts & Business Council of Miami.

United Way Miami

United Way is a reliable and fun place to volunteer. With the thousands of people they attract every year, they accomplish a great deal towards tackling literacy, poverty, and other issues. They are a great place to start your journey as a volunteer. Volunteer coordinators will help place you on a project they think you will enjoy, and where there is a great need for at the time.

Colony Theatre

The Colony Theatre is always looking for volunteer ushers for their historic South Beach movie theatre. The Colony Theatre opened its doors in 1935 and still embodies the same unique art deco style you might have seen on its original opening night. Despite the throwback feel, The Colony Theatre has recently undergone a 3 year $6.5 million renovation to bring it back to its original glory while upgrading their stage and technical equipment.
