Sports enthusiasts will want to watch the Chicago Cubs Spring Training at Sloan Park located on West Rio Salado Parkway. You can buy tickets for a single game or for a full season. Beginning at the end of February, the public can watch the squad workout in Fields 3 through 6.
The Arizona Museum of Natural History is in Mesa and is filled with dinosaur bones, fossils, minerals, and gems, and other exhibits with over 58,000 objects. Come prepared to stay for a few hours learning about archeology, art, geology, history, paleontology, and more.
The Mesa Arts Center is located on East Main Street and offers the public classes, shows, and events throughout the year. Shows include Broadway, Classical, Jazz, Live Performances, Theater, and Comedy. The museum section of the center features artists' works like Dina Goldstein and Corinne Geersten.
The Mesa Historical Museum is also on East Main Street and features permanent and rotating exhibits. Unique exhibits have included “Strange Collections: Cat People of the Outer Regions,” “Arizona Spring Training Experience,” and “Highlights from the Wallace and Ladmo Show." Research collections are also available for viewing such as Mesa history, East Valley regional history, and the Mormon settlement of the East Valley.
Military and aviation fans should visit the Commemorative Air Force Museum on North Greenfield Road. Several aircraft featured are of the World War II era and you can climb inside a few select aircraft. The museum not only has aircraft displays but also summer air shows and flying aircraft rides along with the aviation exhibits.
