If you have ever watched television shows or movies, you know that Los Angeles is a beautiful place with a lot to offer. The City of Angels is known for its medicine, technology, science, media, entertainment, research, education, sports, fashion, and culture. No matter what your interests may be, LA is sure to offer you plenty of things to do to stay occupied.
Since nearly twenty percent of the city’s residents work in a creative industry, Los Angeles is occasionally called the “Creative Capital of the World.” In fact, no other city in the world’s history has been home to more dancers, film makers, artists, musicians, actors, and writers. The center of the motion picture industry is in the Hollywood neighborhood. The city is also the location for the USC School of Cinematic Arts along with the annual Academy Awards.
In Los Angeles County, there are 841 art galleries and museums. As a matter of fact, there are more museums per capita in Los Angeles than in any other city on the globe. The largest art museum in the Western United States is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art on Museum Row. Spanning the history of art from ancient times to the present, there are over 150,000 works. There are also concert and film series held at the museum.
Los Angeles has both hilly and flat areas. It is surrounded by mountains and the Pacific Ocean. There are plenty of sandy beaches if you want to spend a day in the sun. Or, if you feel like hiking, the San Gabriel Mountains on the north end of the city are a popular recreation destination. In the winter, these mountains are snow-covered and a favorite destination for skiers and snowboarders. In the summer, there is picnicking, hiking, camping, and backpacking.
There are seven major professional sports teams in Los Angeles and its metropolitan area. In addition, Los Angeles is home to the USC Trojan and UCLA Bruin Pac-12 Conference college sports teams. Los Angeles has hosted the Summer Olympics twice and has a good chance of hosting them again in 2024. Catching any sporting event in Pasadena’s Rose Bowl is an experience that should be on everyone’s bucket list.
Speaking of the Rose Bowl, the Rose Parade is just one of dozens of annual events in Los Angeles that attracted tens of thousands of visitors. The world-class Los Angeles Film Festival takes place every June and features over 200 films, shorts, and music videos from all over the world. Other annual events include the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, the California Strawberry Festival, and OutFest.
The West Coast is known for its laid back personality. This is exemplified in the many businesses devoted to helping you relax. Wi Spa is a day spa that specializes in massages and skin care. Or, grab a friend and experience the couples massages at Pho-Siam Thai Spa. No matter how you like to unwind, LA has solutions for you.
