I'm quite happy with it.
I'm quite happy with it. They are quite attentive. Our loved one is a challenge, and they get her to come out of her room. She seems quite happy there. When an issue has come up, they don't try to sweep it under the rug, they address it and take care of it which I really appreciate. My loved one is on the memory care side, so I don't really have any experience with the more independent side. But so far we have been very happy.
Recommended with caveats
My mother lives in the memory care (secured) section of the Kingsway.
The physical facility is well appointed, warm and inviting. The staff is friendly, helpful and caring.
Whenever i visit my mother, she is either sitting in the dining room all alone or sitting in the TV room, surrounded by other residents who are either sleeping or staring into space. In all fairness, i usually visit in the evenings and on weekends, when actvities have stopped for the day and staff is at minimum, but even during the week in the middle of the day, (when i pick her up for a doctor's appointment), this has been the case.
My mother is in the initial stages of demensia but is surrounded by people whose dimensia is much more advanced. Because of this, she feels isolated and does not interact with the other residents.
I have been advised that the only way to address this is to either hire a personal care worker to give her one on one attention; or to arrange to have her attend adult day programs outside of the Kingsway. I believe that this is something that the Kingsway should be providing.
Many of the services, to begin with, are provided by outside agencies such as the Red Cross or CCAC. I find any additional costs prohibitive.
Residents who live outside of the memory care floor seem happy and engaged.
