Not as great as it looks
Appearances can be deceptive. Welbrook Santa Monica looks great but its problems run deep. There are many kind and hardworking caregivers there but also a few bad apples, and the management are more interested in protecting their fannies than solving problems. Residents fall way too often, people who can't feed themselves sometimes don't get fed, many families have had to hire supplemental caregivers to make sure their loved ones get the basic care they need because it's not being consistently provided by staff.
Activities look excellent
This place is excellent, gorgeous, and brand new. I recommend it for that aspect alone. My concern is can they really handle someone who needs daily bathing, dressing, and help getting in/out of a wheelchair which means they can't make their own bed either and must be pushed in the chair everywhere. This is a great concern for me. I may go back again to get more clarity. Their activities schedule looked good and they were taking everyone on an outside/away activity on their van - wheelchair bound residents as well. Far too many places park their wheelchair bound residents in front of a TV so I was encouraged that they don't do this. They go on daily outside activities which is great.
