Arbor Lodge State Historical Park in Nebraska City is the estate of J. Sterling Morton who founded Arbor Day. This park includes a historical mansion, arboretum, Italian terraced garden, a log cabin, hiking trails, and a carriage house.

8. Bluestem State Recreation Area

This 742-acre area has gorgeous spots for picnicking or camping. It also has a lake, making it the perfect spot for an easily accessed getaway. Fishermen especially enjoy Bluestem, which has stocked the 325-acre lake with fish. Picnicking, camping and other activities are also available.

9. Bryson's Airboat Tours

Take a ride on the Platte River, one of the nation's most beautiful rivers. See bald eagles, blue herons, whitetail deer and more in their natural habitat. Tours last approximately one hour.
