Following the Catholic Health Ministry

Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration founded CHI Health St. Elizabeth in 1889. St. Elizabeth is part of Catholic Health Initiatives, whose mission is to heal using the ministry of the Church and respect human dignity. St. Elizabeth is a nonprofit regional medical center that provides treatment for women’s health, burns, neuroscience, cardiology, orthopedics, emergency care, and wound care.  This medical facility is nationally recognized.

Nebraska Heart is a member of CHI Health and upholds the Catholic health ministry.  This facility is known for using a team approach for advanced cardiac care.

St. Jane De Chantal offers transitional care, long-term care, and special needs assistance.  St. Jane believes it’s important to use a holistic approach for the care of mind, spirit, and body.  Residents can participate in pet therapy, massage, yoga, light therapy, Tai Chi, aromatherapy, yoga, and more.

The Inn at Belden Village is another assisted living community.  They offer numerous activities, including Catholic mass and communion.

Catholic Health Association of the United States provides programs and services to take the best care of older adults. Catholic-sponsored health organizations offer a variety of care services including housing, long-term care, counseling, and more.

You can also research various health conditions, read articles on faith, listen to webinars, and listen to Catholic teachings relating to the elderly.  The webinars offer guidance on senior care including topics information on what to look for in long-term care providers, nursing home care objectives, and spirituality in long-term care.

Parishes for Catholic Seniors

If you want to get involved with the community and share the ministry of the Catholic Church, Catholic Charities of Southern Nebraska is always looking for volunteers to help.

Sacred Heart offers a Senior Coffee program that meets the first Saturday of every month. You can also join Knights of Columbus or Quilters for further social interaction.

St. Michael Catholic Parish offers several ministries including a health ministry that talks about medical issues and also provides monthly blood pressure monitoring. You can also join the church for further community outreach.

Catholic Sightseeing in Nebraska

The Shrine of the Holy Family is built in a prairie to provide a place for prayer and reflection. The Archbishop Emeritus Elden Curtiss blessed this shrine in 2013.

The Saint Cecilia Cathedral has stained glass from a 16th-century Cathedral in Pamplona, Spain. You can also visit the museum with exhibits and details about the Cathedral’s history.  There is no admission fee.
