Americans with low income must rely on state aid to get them through a tough time. This aid includes medical insurance that covers care costs. Seniors in Las Vegas who have a disability may apply for Medicaid and receive the care they so desperately require. The Las Vegas area has many resources available to those looking to qualify.
The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services has a Division of Welfare and Supportive Services. Their mission is to provide assistance to all who qualify. Eligible senior applicants must be older than 64 and have an income of less than $17,000 if they are single and living alone. An application must get completed along with documents verifying identity and revenue before eligibility may be determined.
An online application allows you to fill out and submit a form on your own. Step-by-step instructions should get you through the process without trouble. If you do find yourself in need of help, you can call the toll-free number at 1-800-992-0900. A representative will answer your questions so you can continue applying online.
If you would rather apply in-person, you can head into the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health. Their location is 3811 W Charleston Blvd. You can call them beforehand at (702) 486-3000 to see if anyone is available to speak with you that day. The Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services is also available for help. The building sits at 3330 E Flamingo Rd #55. Call their office at (702) 486-9400.
Seniors in need of medical care receive some additional services from Medicaid that others do not. You can get up to nine months of hospice care if you forgo curative care during that timeframe. You can also choose to stay in a nursing home for an extended duration. You must speak with your provider to discuss the length of stay covered under Medicaid before making this choice.
Other standard services also get provided. You may visit your doctor as needed, stay in the hospital when required, obtain your prescription medications, and also have lab work completed. Regular care services offered to people of all ages are still available to seniors.
MTM is Nevada’s transportation service. Anyone with Medicaid may contact MTM to request a ride as long as they provide their medical identification number and other identifying information. You may request a ride from Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7 am and 5 pm. If there is an emergency and you need an urgent trip, you can call to see if a driver is available. If one is not available, ambulance rides are also covered under Medicaid for emergency purposes. Dial 1-844-879-7341 to schedule your transportation in advance and ensure your ride will arrive to get you on time. You should call MTM if you have waited for more than 15 minutes after your pickup time.
