Live Like a Local in Irving

You will love all that Irving has to offer. This Dallas-suburb offers enough excitement that you won’t have to leave the city if you don’t want to. You can take a photo at the famous Mustangs of Las Colina's statue and then visit the Museum, which is located at East Tower of Williams Square. You need to visit the Scouting Museum, a Boy Scout institution, which also includes fine art by Norman Rockwell. Finding your favorite restaurant, shopping, and hair salon may require some extra help. Here are a few suggestions to get you started.

Finding food

Just like Naples Italy, Cavalli Pizza makes their pizzas in a 900-degree oven. The wood-fired method has produced the perfect pizza for hundreds of years, so why change it? Try the arugula and prosciutto pie served with balsamic glaze and shaved Parmigiano. They do have other Italian specialties other than pizza if you want to try chicken parm, calamari fritter, or pesto chicken.

You can try gourmet Argentinean empanadas, which are flaky turnovers stuffed with your choice of goodness, at Empamundo. You can try traditional styles like the chicken with olives, raisins, onions, and egg, the extraordinary spinach ricotta, or Texas brisket. There are 18 varieties available along with desert.

FM Smoke House is a barbecue joint that is famous for bacon-injected brisket and chicken-fried steak made with the smoked prime rib. All food items are prepared in-house from scratch using local, quality ingredients. Don’t worry, vegetarians can find food including the Brussels sprout & beet salad.

Finding shopping

Irving Mall is the typical enclosed mall. There are more 120 retailers, including stores like Macy’s, Sears, Burlington Coat Factory, and American Eagle Outfitters. Grab dinner or catch a movie once you are done shopping.

If you are into finding bargains, shopping for unique gifts, or supporting local businesses, Irving has a few shopping districts for you, including Bishop Arts District and Highland Park Village, which was the country’s first shopping center and prototype for the complexes we see today. During the holidays, Highland Park Village has a tree lighting ceremony, and you can also take a horse-drawn carriage ride, which is not your typical mall experience.

Finding your next hair salon

Texas is known for big hair, which you can certainly wear well, or if you choose another style, you need a salon to help you either way. Pure Salon’s mission is to inspire and educate their clients, themselves, and our planet. It is also and AVEDA Concept Salon to help you maintain your hairstyle between visits with the best AVEDA products available.

Scott LeMaster Salon and Spa pulls out the red carpet for its clients. There is an assortment of complimentary refreshments including champagne Saturdays, free WiFi, and relaxing head massage with shampoo. You will also earn loyalty points for discounts. Not sure about a product? Take home a sample to try.
