Best of Houston Senior Living 2016

About one in four households provides primary care for an aging family member. When the demands of caregiving become too high, it may be time to look for another living arrangement where a senior can receive in-home assistance. Family members will feel a greater level of comfort in knowing that the facility they choose provides the best care. There’s no better way to find that placement than by selecting a facility that was given the highest ratings by senior residents with first-person experience. The Best of 2016 Awards are given to the facilities that consistently get the highest ratings by consumers.

Assisted Living

Residents who need some medical, physical, or mental health assistance, but who are able to tend to many of their own personal care needs, may find that assisted living is the best choice of living arrangement. Assisted living gives them the help they need while allowing them to live as independently as possible. Six facilities won the 2016 Best Award for Senior Living in the category of Assisted Living.

Belmont Village Hunters Creek receives an excellent rating by residents and their families. The facility is located in a charming Houston community. Residents can easily get to shopping and medical centers. Staff promotes a healthy, body, mind and spirit among the residents.

One family member said, “The Belmont VHC has been such a blessing for my mother and me. To know that she is in a safe, secure, and loving environment 24/7 means everything to me.”

Elmcroft of Cy-Fair tailors senior living to the needs of the residents with a focus on a holistic approach to caring for the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual needs of residents. The facility is safe, clean, and affordable.

Residents give staff compliments on their excellent care and service. One resident said that she felt extreme happiness and security at Elmcroft.

Atria Westchase creates an environment that is vibrant and filled with southern hospitality. The facility offers educational and cultural activities, in addition to professional senior care assistance. Leisure activities include a reading center and computer room with a cozy fireplace. Shopping, medical centers, and a golf course are located nearby.

The most common words used in resident reviews are “fantastic” and “welcoming.” Reviewers appreciate staff that has worked there long-term.

Brookdale Champions encourages their residents to live life optimally. Brookdale inspires celebrating life with culturally diverse themed nights and cuisine. They host special events and group activities that inspire wellness with a culturally enriching flair.

Brookdale gets strong reviews for staff that goes above and beyond the call of duty. One reviewer said that the staff and facility was more than the family could have hoped for.

Village on the Park at Steeplechase is a great place for active seniors who want to be close to the downtown area and the Galleria. Autumn Leaves of Clear Lake specializes in memory care and they have a quality assisted living program as well. Their motto is “every moment matters,” so they cater to each resident’s interests, history, and preferences.

Alzheimer’s Care

When a senior loved one has wandered off causing family members to be afraid for their safety, senior facilities that have staff that are trained in Alzheimer’s and memory care can relieve the fear and concerns that family members have about safety.

Brookdale Champions takes the top award in Alzheimer’s Care and Assisted Living as noted above. The memory care program that staff uses is called the Clare Bridge program which focuses on the resident’s feelings of belonging, purpose, and safety, while preserving their sense of self.

Village on the Park at Steeplechase also gets the 2016 Best of Senior Living award for Alzheimer’s Care, as well as Assisted Living. Their memory program focuses on honoring the resident’s life experiences through tailored programs, personalized care, and positive interactions, while providing safety.

Autumn Leaves of Clear Lake was also recognized as the “best of the best” by the Assisted Living Federation of America for superior care in dementia care. From the individual dining needs and preferences to the specially designed layout of the rooms, Autumn Leaves keeps seniors with dementia in mind in their planning.

Independent Living

When single family home living becomes too much for an aging senior, many of them are ready to transfer a lot of the maintenance and upkeep tasks to staff so they can enjoy more time for leisure and activities they want to enjoy during their retirement.

Village on the Park at Steeplechase is a triple award-winning facility, with this third award in Independent living. The sun never sets for seniors who live at Village on the Park. They offer activities and excursions to fit every appetite for healthy senior living.

Senior Group Homes

Many seniors thrive on socializing with others, even into their later years. Senior group homes are family homes where seniors live and enjoy each other’s company in the same dwelling.

None of the Houston facilities have received this prestigious award yet, but the reviews of many of the facilities are strong.
