Gilbert and the entire Phoenix metropolitan area offer an abundance of Catholic churches that not only provide worship but give seniors and other members services to improve the quality of life.

Complete health programs for Catholic seniors

The Catholic community has always believed in taking care of one another. Seniors can find programs to support their health and well-being. Saint Anne gives parish members classes and groups to support life through Friends of the Needy program.

In Phoenix, Saint Joan of Arc has a Senior Ministry with programs geared towards seniors including seminars on health and wellness, outings, scripture learning, retreats, and games. If you are widowed, divorced, or just never married, you don’t have to be lonely. There is a singles group at Saint Joan of Arc for meeting new people. Homebound seniors can also receive assistance with various chores including errands, cleaning, and food shopping.

For additional Catholic support and fellowship, FSL created two senior centers. The Peoria location is a 45-minute drive away. If you are willing to make the drive occasionally, this place offers exceptional daily lunch programs, recreation activities, exercise programs, wellness education, and hobby interest groups.

Foundation for Senior Living gives seniors health aid

The Foundation for Senior Living (FSL) was created by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix to better senior living with social services, health and wellness offerings, and housing for those who need additional help.

FSL offers adult day health services to give seniors programs to increase activity, strengthen the body through exercise, socialization to improve mental health, and medical assistance. Whether this is respite care or just social time, these programs enhance the mind, the body, and the overall well-being of the individual.

To promote independence for homebound seniors, FSL provides home care assistance. They customize each service to the individual’s needs and provide flexible scheduling leaving the person in control of his or her day.

FSL Assisted group living provides extended care and housing options for adults with behavioral health issues. These facilities also provide training of daily life skills and offer to counsel both the patient and family. There are FSL group homes throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area. As a result of the program’s success, other programs have used their program model as their foundation.

Other FSL health services include:

Safety checks and home monitoring

Respite care

Prescription reminders and refill programs

Transportation to medical appointments

Assistance with various chores such as cleaning and errand running

Area Catholic hospitals also offer education on wellness and health issues. St. Luke’s provides free health seminars and complimentary hearing screenings.

Holy Cross in Mesa provides ministry at a homebound senior’s home or health facilities including hospitals, nursing homes, and group homes. Currently, they regularly visit Banner Baywood Heart Hospital, Banner Baywood Medical Center, and Mt View Medical Center. They have served over 20,000 area patients annually.

To find Catholic medical physicians that follow Catholic principles, search the Catholic Physicians Guild of Phoenix.
