Garland’s senior population is more than 75,696. Located northeast of Dallas, it’s a suburb of Dallas and part of the Dallas to Fort Worth metroplex. With a population of 226,876 according to the 2010 census, this is the 12th most populated city in Texas and 87th most populous city in the nation. Dart Blue Line stations and buses provide public transportation to downtown Dallas. Money Magazine and CNN has ranked Garland as one of the "Top 100 Places to Live." It has also gained recognition as the eighth “Best Run City in America.”

The City of Garland Senior Service, located at 600 W. Avenue A, offers seniors many social, educational, and physical activity programs. Classes or programs for seniors include Arts & Crafts, Dancing, Travel, Fitness, Games, Physical Activities, Music, Seminars, and Educational Classes.

Garland Carver Senior Center, located at 222 Carver Dr, provides senior citizens with a variety of regular programs like information and referral services, welfare counseling, nutrition, social services, education, recreation, and a noon meal. Additionally, it provides handicapped equipped vans for transportation to and from the center.

Comfort Keepers offer seniors in-home care services to make it easier to continue to live independently. These include lending a helping hand with errands, personal care, mobility, and meals.

Celebration Magazine is a free magazine for seniors to celebrate life after 60. It offers up-to-date articles on topics like retirement communities, local senior centers, senior dances, and exercise programs. The magazine is mailed to seniors and also available online.

Christian Senior Care Network offers in-home care services like safety and security assistance, light housekeeping, meal planning and preparation, and reliable transportation. It also helps seniors learn how to use computers for communicating with loved ones via Skype or email.

The Senior Source serves seniors in the greater Dallas area with a variety of programs. These include the Elder Support Program, Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program, Guardianship and Money Management Program, and Senior Employment Program.

Elder Helpers help seniors with daily chores groceries, errands, and cooking.

The Senior Adults at First Baptist Church Garland gather for monthly Keenager Luncheons that have speakers and entertainment and take trips together to local cultural events and big sports games in the greater Dallas area.

VNA Haggerty Center is a multipurpose 21,660 square foot facility, and VNA Haggerty Kitchen is the largest Meals on Wheels kitchen in the nation. In Garland, the meal distribution point is at First Presbyterian Church of Garland, located at 930 W. Avenue B.

Visiting Angels provide seniors with full-time or part-time care, temporary or long term care, and giving respite care for family member caregivers. They also provide Alzheimer’s care, in-home care for stroke patients, day care, meal preparation, and monitor special diets. Additionally, they help with light housekeeping, errands, and shopping.
