The fifth largest city in California, Fresno has a large population of LGBT people. The LGBT Community Center, combined with other facilities and resources in the area, works to improve the life of those living in the city and help them find others like them. A number of neighborhoods, events, and support groups are located in Fresno for seniors.

Finding Friendly Fresno Neighborhoods

Places like Club Legends and The Red Lantern are popular neighborhood hotspots for LGBT members of the Fresno community. The Red Lantern is a gay bar on Belmont, while Club Legends is a nightclub on Maroa. They are just 11 minutes away from each other, to the right of the Tower District.

Downtown Fresno is a fun place to visit for those interested in shopping. The historical buildings offer a unique atmosphere. Numerous restaurants and bars are also available to frequent.

Bella Vista Memory Care is one possible place for seniors to stay. It is a nice community with plenty of chances for interaction. Another possibility is Brookdale Fresno. The apartment-like facility allows people to come and go as they please. Residents can stay in for a day of relaxation, or head out on the town to enjoy some of the LGBT-friendly events that are offered.

Finding Fresno Friends and Events

Gay Fresno is a valuable resource for the LGBT community. A number of events are listed on their calendar that residents can check out. The Gray Alliance is for senior men and women over the age of 50. A movie night is held for group members each week. There are also regular group meetings and discussions, as well as other special nights. A potluck night is one common occurrence.

The Reel Pride Film Festival is a five-day event held in the area. It is the sixth oldest gay and lesbian film festival in America. It has been running for more than 27 years. It celebrates LGBT-related cinema.

The Golden State Bears offers a monthly Coffee Night Social. It is primarily held on the last Thursday of the month. The gathering lasts for an hour and allows people to enjoy some company and have a friendly chat.

Finding Fresno Support Groups

The Fresno LGBT Community Center is open several days a week for those that want to come in and discuss support options. Workers at the center can point people in the right direction in terms of finding a place to meet that fits their needs, as well as offering additional resources. A Sexual Compulsives Anonymous meeting takes place each Wednesday. There is also a Transgender Support Group that meets on the second Tuesday of the month.

An LGBT Social Support Group is held once a month. It is typically located at the Holistic Cultural and Education Wellness Center. Mental wellness, stress-coping tips, and overall health are discussed at the group.

There is also an LGBT AA meeting held every week. It is at the Community United Church of Christ, and is held every Tuesday.
