Denver Senior Services

Denver is a major city with one of the highest altitudes in the country. It is known as the Mile High City because its altitude is one mile above sea level. Seniors love the clean downtown area with brick-paved streets that are flanked by quaint shops and restaurants. The lively area is only surpassed by the views of the Rocky Mountains in the distance. Denver is a beautiful place for seniors to live and the community supports them with all the services they need to support healthy, independent living.

Senior Support Services is supported by the United Way. This program is Denver’s only day center that serves seniors that are hungry and homeless. Impoverished seniors can get hot meals and other food. They can also get access to medical care, health screenings, and mental health care. Homeless seniors can get help with housing, social service benefits, rent payments, utility payments, and financial counseling. The program also provides activities and opportunities for socialization.

Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Denver links seniors to other community services to help seniors remain in their homes safely and independently. Staff helps seniors find assistance with complicated health, medical, or legal matters. They also help seniors access social service benefits and entitlements. Catholic Charities recognizes the importance of family support, so they work to build support for seniors and their families. They also provide bilingual and Spanish-speaking staff.

Senior Assistance Center began over 30 years ago under the auspices that if the basic needs of seniors could be met, the rest of life would be easier to manage. The Senior Assistance Center helps seniors by providing a food bank and access to other public services. The center can help by preventing eviction and preventing utilities from being shut off.

Jewish Family Service employs care managers that serve the Jewish population and others with assistance for geriatric care, in-home services, mental health services, disability services, vocational services, and counseling. The service also offers a kosher Meals on Wheels program. Seniors pay on a sliding scale fee.

Elder Concierge Services is a unique service that helps families take care of homebound seniors by providing an array of non-medical senior services. The program focuses on support, friendship, and transportation to allow other families member to work and take care of other family members. In addition to providing direct services, this program offers low-cost consultations for care coordination and care supervision. When seniors transition from one setting to another the program develops a customized plan for easing the transition. This includes providing personal care, providing meals, helping with paperwork, helping the senior settle into the new environment, and keeping family members updated on the status of their loved one.

Silver Key Senior Services is an organization that offers case management, short-term crisis assistance, home-delivered meal programs, congregate meals, emergency assistance, and a food pantry. Silver Key also has a transportation department that provides door-to-door service for help with getting to medical appointments, shopping, group meals, and social activities. The service is ADA compliant and will assist with special needs such as oxygen tanks and wheelchairs.
