Financial Assistance for Chula Vista Seniors

California is one of the most expensive states to live in, and for seniors on a fixed income, it can be difficult to pay for even the necessities. However, there is help available from non-profit organizations and government agencies.  You can find services and programs that assist with the costs of food, housing, home repair, home modification, utilities, and recreational programs in Chula Vista. Below are some highlights of these programs available.

Healthy Food for You

Meals on Wheels provides seniors hot meals to San Diego County residents. Seniors can choose between one or two nutritious meals each day of the week. Deliveries come to your home between 10:45 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. by volunteers.   A registered dietitian ensures all meals are balanced and healthy for seniors.

CalFresh, also known as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP, allows low-income households to purchase healthy food. You can use SNAP to pay for your Meals on Wheels program.

Comfortable and Safe Home for You

If you need assistance with home repairs, the City of Chula Vista provides various programs and loans. You can apply for loans to rehabilitate your home based on your income.

If you need help paying your utility bills, California’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program provides financial assistance for heating and cooling.  The state also offers a weatherization program to improve energy efficiency, which saves you money on utility bills.  California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) provides eligible customers a 20 percent discount on gas and electric bills through all utility companies.

If you need housing assistance, you will need to look at other organizations other than the city-run housing program, which is currently unavailable with a long wait list. The California Department of Housing and Community offers low-income housing options for seniors. You can search by county to find affordable housing based on your needs.

You can also find other housing assistance programs. You can search affordable rentals through the City of Chula Vista.
