Chula Vista Senior Centers

Retired life does not have to mean sitting around without anything to do. Seniors now have plenty of options when it comes to keeping busy. Play bingo at the nearest senior center. Meet new people after joining a meet-up group. You can even explore places you have never been with fellow travelers. Chula Vista offers a variety of choices for retired adults to enjoy.

Playing Games

Bingo is one of the most commonly played games among seniors. The local senior center in Chula Vista, known as Norman Park, offers Bingo every Friday afternoon. On the first and third Fridays of the month, the game comes with a potluck lunch. Bring a dish to pass and purchase a bingo card for 50 cents to join in on the fun.

The Norman Park Senior Center, located at 270 F St, offers various learning opportunities. You have to check the calendar, but different classes get held throughout the week that you can join. Whether you want to take up writing, learn tai chi, or start painting or knitting, these courses and more exist at the center.

Staying Fit

If you want to stay fit, Norman Park offers a full fitness center. Treadmills, stationary bikes, an elliptical cross trainer, rower, and weights are all available. Certain classes take place during the week, meaning the fitness center will remain occupied during these times. Strength training, for example, takes place on Wednesdays from 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm. You are free to join in if you wish to give it a try.

Taking the Stage

Some people prefer the more dramatic side of things. If you want to take up dancing or take the stage, there are options for you as well. Ballroom dance takes place between 1 pm and 2:30 pm on Mondays. It costs $3 to drop in for the day, or you can pay $10 to join for the full month.

Meeting New People

Meetup is an excellent website if you want to meet new people. There are tons of groups listed that you can join, including senior yoga classes, active seniors and avid travelers, let’s garden, the choral club of San Diego, and much more. Try one out and make some new friends in the process. Some may have special requirements that you must meet to join, and others are more open and accepting of anyone, even if you may be a beginner.

Seeing the World

Not everyone wants to remain in Chula Vista forever. Some people are apt to exploring and seeing the world. If this is true for you, look into travel groups so you can go places with other people. It is a much safer option than going alone. Senior Helpers offers a Senior Travel Club that allows older adults to visit different cities and locals to explore. With nurses and caregivers along for the trip, you can rest assured you will be safe and well cared for during the time you’re away.
