Chicago Hospitals

Your health is one of the most important things that you can take care of and regular visits to the doctor can keep you on track. As you age, it’s even more important to get check-ups, especially if you have a chronic condition or disease. It’s also a good idea to think about switching to a geriatrician once you reach the age of 65.

Chicago is home to some of the best hospitals and doctors in the country and many of them specialize in geriatrics and other senior care. You can find both regionally and nationally ranked hospitals, doctors, nurses, and other care specialists in Chicago and the surrounding neighborhoods. Here is a rundown of a few of the best places to find geriatric care in the city.

Chicago Hospitals With Senior Care And Specialty Services

Since there are so many hospitals in the area, it can be a little tough to figure out which ones are the best. U.S. News and World Report has listings of over 5,000 hospitals throughout the country and lists the rankings for each major city.

For the Chicago area, Northwestern Memorial Hospital is at the top of the list. They are the number one hospital in Illinois and the Chicago metro area. They are nationally ranked in thirteen different adult specialties, including number twelve in geriatrics and have ranked “high performing” in COPD and heart bypass surgery.

Northwestern has two locations in the Chicago-Metro area that provide geriatric care. At both locations, you can find specialized care for things like dementia, Alzheimer’s, mobility disorders, and many more conditions that are common among older adults. At the Lake Memorial Hospital location, there is a dedicated senior care unit that specializes in the specific care of senior patients.

Rush University Medical Center is another nationally and regionally ranked hospital. They come in at number two in both Illinois and the Chicago area. Their geriatrics unit is ranked at number 15 in the country, their orthopedics division is number six in the country, and they have a high performance ranking in heart failure. Rush has an Alzheimer’s Disease Center that can provide specialized care for this condition as well as a Geriatric Psychiatry Program that can address any mental conditions that seniors might face as they age.

Loyola University Medical Center is a teaching hospital that is ranked at number three in the state and in the Chicago-Metro area. They have a national ranking for cardiology and heart surgery as well as nephrology and urology. They have three different locations, one in Chicago and two in the nearby suburbs, that each provide comprehensive geriatric medicine.

University Of Chicago Medical Center comes in at number four in Illinois and Chicago and they have four adult specialty rankings in the nation. They are high performing in orthopedics and urology and rank at number 25 in the nation for gastroenterology and GI surgery. Along with specialized geriatric care, they have a dedicated geriatric oncology unit for older cancer patients.

Advocate Christ Medical Center is located in the metro area of Chicago in Oak Lawn. They are ranked number five in the state and Chicago and have high performances rankings for diabetes, endocrinology, nephrology, orthopedics, and geriatrics.

Finding A Geriatrician In Chicago
