Medical staff includes nurses, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and a doctor on call. Residents may age in place, so they don’t have to move if their health worsens. Many residents and families wrote strong reviews. Most of them commented about how dedicated and caring the staff is.

Autumn Green at Midway Village won the Best of Senior Living award in 2015 and 2016. The facility offers condominium living with full kitchens, raised electrical outlets, wide doorways and lever door handles. The common areas include a library, computer center, fitness center, and a games lounge. The facility hosts a variety of fun activities. Reviewers raved about the cleanliness and caring staff.

Alzheimer’s Care

Facilities that train staff in dementia and memory care are experts in helping residents maximize their brain function in an environment that protects them and keeps them safe.

Colfax Manor won the 2016 Best of Senior Living Award for Alzheimer’s Care. Colfax Manor personalizes services for each resident. The facility offers personal care, laundry services, safety checks and meals. Medical professionals and therapists are available to monitor and address medical needs.

All of the reviews are 4 or 5-star ratings with notable comments from residents about their appreciation for the one-to-one attention.

Independent Living

Some seniors want to make the most of retirement. They enjoy facilities that offer lots of activities and outings. Independent seniors want some of their basic needs taken care of so that they have more time to enjoy their lives.

Senior Suites of Central Station boasts living among a community of friends. The facility includes housekeeping services and safety features for one of the most affordable rates in the city of Chicago. The facility is culturally diverse and is located in an architecturally rich area. Brookdale Lake View receives two best awards, one for Alzheimer’s Care and as previously noted, one for Assisted Living. Brookdale offers multiple levels of care and will help with senior financing options. Amenities are plentiful, including 24-hour staff, transportation, medical assistance, and full-service dining.

One reviewer noted that her mother is happy there and she feels like she chose the right place for her.

Senior Group Homes

Senior group homes are large homes with congregate living. Residents have a small living space of their own and they have access to common areas where they can enjoy the company of other residents.

Colfax Manor won the 2016 Best of Senior Living award in the Senior Group Home and Alzheimer’s Care categories. Resident reviewers give this facility an average rating of 5 stars.

One resident commented that she chose the facility because they have staff that is trained in dementia care, but she was pleasantly surprised that younger people also lived there. She loves the small group feeling the facility provides.
