Charleston Senior Centers

With Charleston’s wide variety of senior activities, you are sure to have a full calendar. Don’t worry; there is something for everyone. You can choose from playing games, keeping up with your fitness, serving your community, or meeting other seniors including singles.

Full calendars

If playing games and relaxing with friends is your thing, the Low Country Senior Center has the activities for you. Adults 50 and older can participate in games such as Bridge, Canasta, Scrabble, Chess, and Pinochle. Also, there are other social events such as Breakfast Club, Wine Club, and birthday potlucks. There are also art classes including beading, journaling, and watercolors. There is sure to be something for you with over 250 programs offered per month! A new 16,000 square foot senior center is underway on the campus of Bon Secours St. Frances Hospital with plans to open in late summer/early fall 2017.

Full minds

Learning never stops and can be fun and exciting in your retirement. The Low Country Senior Center offers lectures from visiting professors and physicians on topics related to senior living. If you are 60 years or older and a resident of South Carolina, you can join the approximate 200 senior citizens who enroll in classes at College of Charleston.

Full of energy

The City’s Recreation Department offers a wide variety of fitness classes including Yoga, strength training, aerobics, and Zumba. The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) offers a Wellness Center that has several programs for adults over 50. These classes and programs focus on both the functional and structural changes that happen with aging. Staying fit will help with reducing stress, decreasing risks of disease, and promotion of good health mentally and physically.

Full of satisfaction

RSVP program helps you apply the skills and wisdom you have developed throughout your life to help make a positive difference with others in your community. These opportunities are for adults 55 and over and offer a variety of options with organizations associated with health, education, veterans, economics, environment, disaster services, and building. Not only will it make a difference in your community; you will feel pride, satisfaction, and accomplishment by helping others.

Full of love and laughter

You will certainly make friends at the recreation centers, but there are also Meetup groups in Charleston to discover the city. Most groups welcome all ages. You can find singles groups, friendship groups for men and women, and more. There are various other clubs and groups within Charleston for different interests including gardening, golf, and a Keenager group (for those keen on making life fun at any age).

Full of adventure

There are trips galore available to you. The Low Country Senior Center offers day trips to explore the city. You can also look into international travel groups like this one on Meetup that assembles trips like cruises or trips to France. There are also tour companies who specialize in creating the perfect trip for your senior groups.
