A new 16,000 square foot senior center is underway on the campus of Bon Secours St. Frances Hospital with plans to open in late summer/early fall 2017.
Learning never stops and can be fun and exciting in your retirement. The Low Country Senior Center offers lectures from visiting professors and physicians on topics related to senior living. If you are 60 years or older and a resident of South Carolina, you can join the approximate 200 senior citizens who enroll in classes at College of Charleston.
The City’s Recreation Department offers a wide variety of fitness classes including Yoga, strength training, aerobics, and Zumba. The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) offers a Wellness Center that has several programs for adults over 50. These classes and programs focus on both the functional and structural changes that happen with aging. Staying fit will help with reducing stress, decreasing risks of disease, and promotion of good health mentally and physically.
RSVP program helps you apply the skills and wisdom you have developed throughout your life to help make a positive difference with others in your community. These opportunities are for adults 55 and over and offer a variety of options with organizations associated with health, education, veterans, economics, environment, disaster services, and building. Not only will it make a difference in your community; you will feel pride, satisfaction, and accomplishment by helping others.
