The Baltimore area is as friendly as they come. With plenty of community offerings and gay-friendly neighborhoods, any LGBT citizen can feel at ease in Baltimore. There are also numerous community support groups and outreach programs that provide the support and guidance that so many people desire.

Join the Community

The downtown area is one of the best locations for gay Baltimore residents to reside, thanks to the many LGBT offerings in the area. To the north of this area, about 18 minutes away, is another ideal residing place. Brookdale Towson is a senior community where all LGBT seniors are welcome; it is nearby all of the local hot spots and offers its own set of amenities and features for residents to enjoy.

A little further away to the northwest is North Oaks Retirement Community. There is apartment living for individuals and couples, allowing for almost complete independence. Residents can stay in for the day, or head out on the town to enjoy some unique activities.

Explore the Community

The Drinkery is one of the longest running gay bars in Baltimore. The local hangout offers lively karaoke shows that keep everyone entertained. Anyone can come in and feel like family.

Grand Central Club is a top destination for LGBT dancing. Separate bar sections are included, including a ladies lounge. Karaoke is performed at the club, as well as other special events on various occasions.

The Baltimore city website offers an LGBT Calendar of Events. This allows all residents to see the special offerings each month so they can choose which ones to attend. An Annual Baltimore Book Festival, Baltimore Black Pride, Free Fall Baltimore arts and culture program, and Miss Gay Maryland Pageant are some of the scheduled yearly choices.

Baltimore Gay Pride is the biggest event of all. This brings all LGBT members of the community together for one cause, to offer support and unity for everyone. The festival is typically held in July, with many free outdoor events for LGBT members and their families. The festival is typically held for more than a few days, with entertainment, a parade, and other special offerings included.

Community Support

The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland, otherwise known as GLCCB, offers a variety of LGBT programs in the area. A Listen and Learn Support Group, Sisters of Pride group, and even Alcoholics Anonymous are some of the offerings available. There is also a free legal clinic offered, as well as a weekly yoga time.

Baltimore Outloud is a community center in the area offering a voice for all LGBT citizens. Regular events and meetings are hosted by the center, with everyone in the area encouraged to participate. They also provide a plethora of resources for the area. LGBT-friendly news stories are published online for all to read, including community voices, narratives on new beginnings, art beats, an “out on screen” section depicting movies with a predominately gay nature, and “out on stage.”
