Arlington Family Caregiver Benefits

The population is starting to age rapidly, which has led to an increase of caregiver services. Seniors often turn to family members for caregiving duties, and while this can be easier for the senior, it can be overwhelming for the caregiver. A caregiver does a myriad of tasks day in and day out and if you are providing care for an elderly family member, you might feel alone and tired. Luckily, there are supportive services throughout Arlington that can help you with your job and make you a better caregiver.

North Central Texas Alzheimer’s Association Chapter

The chances are great that you are caring for a family member that has Alzheimer’s or some form of dementia which can be a tough task as Alzheimer’s is not a simple disease. That’s why the Alzheimer’s Association makes sure each of their chapters provides supportive care to caregivers. The North Central Texas Chapter serves over 40 counties and has a lot of resources for caregivers.

One unique program that Tarrant County caregivers can use is the Resources for Enhancing Alzheimer’s Caregiver Health or REACH. This program pairs caregivers with a specialist so they can get one on one educational training and learn how to best care for their family member. The program helps Alzheimer’s patients because it allows them to stay in their home longer and their caregivers can feel connected to professionals who can help when needed.

Joining a support group is a great way for caregivers to connect with other people who are on the same journey. These weekly meetings allow caregivers to share stories, encouragement, and advice. A few groups also offer free respite care and meetings can serve as a chance to get a little break. There are plenty of different times and days for meetings so check the calendar to find one that fits your schedule.

The North Central Chapter also hosts a Caregiver Seminar that is an all day event for caregivers. There are three different tracks you can choose from, and each one offers support and educational materials on various aspects of caregiving. This conference is free of charge, but you do have to register online beforehand. You can also check the schedule to see which track you would like to take.
