Albuquerque Veterans Benefits

Veterans that make the choice to give their time to the United States Military are rewarded through benefits and services when they return home. In the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico, those benefits come in the form of healthcare, housing, education, employment, and more.

This guide can serve as a brief overview of the many benefits available to Albuquerque veterans.

Albuquerque Health Benefits for Local Veterans

Luckily for veterans in the Albuquerque area, the New Mexico VA Health Care System is located locally. At 1301 San Pedro SE, veterans will find the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center. As a VA-staffed health care system, the New Mexico VA Health Care System has 13 community-based outpatient clinics and 24-hour emergency services.

The Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center offers a number of health care services and support options to veterans in the area. A few of those services include mental health support, nutrition and food services, recreation therapy, and women veterans health programs. For older veterans in the Albuquerque area, the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center also provides caregiver support services, patient travel services, and more.

Albuquerque Housing Benefits for Local Veterans

The New Mexico VA Health Care System also provides services to ensure homeless veterans find housing, medical care, and support that they need to get back on their feet. The Homeless Program Coordinator, located at the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center, conducts outreach and manages programs to reduce the risk of veteran homelessness.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs also uses home loan benefits to encourage veterans to purchase a home of their own. With the assistance of the Albuquerque Regional Benefit Office, eligible veterans can apply for the following home loan benefits:

Purchase Loans are given to qualifying veterans who are in need of financial assistance for purchasing a home. This money can go towards things like a mortgage or down payment.

For veterans that already have a loan but may be unable to meet the demands of the repayment schedule, an Interest Rate Reduction Refinance Loan can be available.

If a veteran already owns a home but is unable to comfortably live there because of a disability sustained during his or her time in the military, they may qualify to receive an Adapted Housing Grant to make housing modification.

Other veterans may also be entitled to a property tax reduction.

Other Albuquerque benefits for Local Veterans

The Albuquerque Regional Benefit Office does not only focus on providing home loans to veterans. There are also a number of other benefits that the office can help veterans identify, apply for, and receive. Those benefits are largely broken into the following categories: compensation, education & training, vocational rehabilitation & employment, life insurance, and pension.

The many unique benefits that fall underneath these categories explore things like financing a college degree, securing employment, receiving compensation for claims or filing claims, and more. If you are interested in learning more about the benefits available to veterans, you can explore the Albuquerque Regional Benefit Office website or call the office at 800-827-1000.
